We are the Housestaff Association of the University of Colorado Hospitals.
We represent nearly 1,300 resident doctors and fellows (housestaff) across the University of Colorado hospitals and affiliates. We have advocated for our colleagues since HSA’s founding in 1969, and are proud to continue that work today. Committing to our mission of progress through accountability has led us to our latest goal: winning full collective bargaining rights.
As a representative of CU’s housestaff, HSA is not always guaranteed a spot to negotiate stipends, benefits, and working conditions for our peers. Even when we are invited to engage with CU SOM GME, the agreements made at the table don’t always take into account our advocacy and needs. In fact, HSA has had a “meet-and-confer” arrangement with SOM GME and hospital administrators for years, but this arrangement can be taken away on a whim by CU and hospital leadership. In an effort to solidify our seat at the table, HSA wants full collective bargaining rights to engage in contract negotiations moving forward.
A permanent seat at the negotiating table is not a given for HSA.
